Gay Biology vs. The Bible: We can Fix ’em!

The president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., The Rev. R. Albert Mohler Jr.  wrote on his personal website that current scientific research “points to some level of biological causation” for homosexuality.

He goes further, and says he believes the Bible would justify “tinkering” with the babies genes in order fix the problem.

In other words, finding a biological causation for homosexuality may also lead to the discovery of a “cure” for the same phenomenon.

The upside to this is a conservative Christian calling into question the validity of the current Conservative Christian position that Homosexuality is a choice, and Gay people can be “helped” with therapy.

The wider philosophical problem is whether we want to start “curing” every little thing about our children that makes them, and our world, so diverse and interesting.

It’s one thing to cure a physical deformation that will cause physical harm or pain to the child throughout it’s life.  But, curing someone of something that in NO WAY harms anyone else or themselves physically … but instead is simply seen as a social stigma, is Fascistic and belongs on the trash heap of history along with Hitlers Eugenics.

Should we also cure “Blackness”?  It was for most of western history a deeply social stigma to be born black.  You were less than human.  In fact, the view of Blacks was worse than the current view of Homosexuals.  At least Christian Conservatives like Mohler think Gay people are human.  They’re just people with a problem (like a bad back) that needs fix’n.

There is no logical continuity to these kinds of arguments.  And yet they persist in force in many communities.

Mohler is abetting hatred and violence toward a group of people who like being who they are.

What would Jesus do?  Oh … I forgot.  Conservative Christians don’t like to actually “do” what Jesus would do.  God forbid they practiced what HE preached.

The Reverend is continuing the proof that Hate is a permanent human condition.
