Sounds like a joke, but Florida-based pastor Bill Keller would have you believe that a vote for Romney is a vote for Satan.
“This message today is not about Mitt Romney,” he writes. “Romney is an unashamed and proud member of the Mormon cult founded by a murdering polygamist pedophile named Joseph Smith nearly 200 years ago. The teachings of the Mormon cult are doctrinally and theologically in complete opposition to the Absolute Truth of God’s Word. There is no common ground. If Mormonism is true, then the Christian faith is a complete lie. There has never been any question from the moment Smith’s cult began that it was a work of Satan and those who follow their false teachings will die and spend eternity in hell.”
Now Romney is by no means my favorite candidate. He’s made racist remarks, made it clear that only people of faith are worthy of the Presidency, and has few clear stances on real issues that matter to me.
But he is most certainly not Satan. He is however a Mormon (read: Not a far right Christian). And that is quite frightening to some people.
I guess it’s only fair play that if I’m going to harp on Romney for not being open to a President who doesn’t have “faith”, then I need to defend his right to have it. I don’t care what religion (or lack there of) a Presidential Candidate has. I do care about living in a society that respects pluralism.
